2023-2024

As part of my practice-based research during my Master's studies at the University of Portsmouth, this project investigates how motion in type, or kinetic typography, can create new expressions, evoke emotions, and elicit fresh reactions from audiences. Focusing on Square Kufic—an ancient Persian calligraphy celebrated for its geometric precision and cultural depth—I explored the possibilities of challenging deep-rooted perceptions about this script by introducing motion into its structure. Through a combination of semiotic analysis, typographic experimentation, and interactive design, this work reinterprets the script, bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary design while celebrating cultural heritage in a modern, dynamic context.

The showcased works highlight my efforts to breathe new life into the ancient Square Kufic script by incorporating motion and interactive elements into its traditional structure. Each piece represents a blend of historical reverence and modern creativity, demonstrating how kinetic typography and graphic design can transform a static calligraphy into a dynamic and emotionally resonant experience. These designs aim to challenge perceptions, evoke fresh interpretations, and create a deeper connection between the audience and this timeless art form.
